The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy by Tim Burton
July 1st, 2009 -- Posted in Books | 36 Comments »This black charming light book (You can say it is light from the number of the page. D’oh) consists of couple of short stories. Surprisingly, the author of this book is Tim Burton, the director of some movies such as Batman, Edward the Scissors Hand, Planet of The Apes, Sleepy Hollow, etc. If I could mention the book, these are words that suddenly popped into my mind. Dark. Glum. Absurd. Genius. They were all perfectly blended in one package.
As you notice the illustrations on it, you might related those with images on “Corpse Bride” and “Nightmare Before Christmas”. The stories and characters were powerful, too. As powerful as you can imagine. Have you ever seen a main female characters who have lots of eyes on her face? A queen with many pins on her body? WOW. For your info, the characters on this little book have their own name. Such as “Stain Boy”, “Mummy Boy”, and of course the “Oyster Boy” himself.
If you are a fan of dark humor, like many people in Indonesia (oh really?), then this book will make a nice gift to yourself. Beautiful in strange way, stunning in a bizarre mode, and gorgeous in an odd style. That’s all I can say ’bout the book that published in 1997. Nice stories, Mr Burton, I give you lotsa kudos for this one! Oops, bear in mind that this book is not meant for children! *wink*
Bonus round: Yep, you could download the book in here, OYSTER
